TARRANT COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) — Due to a serious risk of wildfires, Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley signed an emergency disaster declaration on Friday.

The declaration states that due to severe drought conditions along with hot and dry weather, the area is at risk of large and quickly-spreading wildfires that could potentially endanger lives and damage property.

Wildfires have ravaged large swaths of North Texas over the past month, destroying several homes and damaging many structures.

By issuing the declaration, the county has the ability to pursue monetary and material help from both state and federal agencies.
